5 Brilliant Ways to Make Your Pot Stash Last

SP AK

Weed may be legal in Colorado and Washington, but it certainly isn’t cheap (granted, if you have a medical card, you can save up to 50 percent off of retail prices, but an average eighth will still cost around $40).

If you’re like me, all you want is to have your weed and smoke it, too, but doing so while staying under a monthly budget can be hard, especially when the green is so good. But you can make your stash last longer just by using these five simple tips.

Distract yourself

Yes, a bowl of green may be your cup of coffee in the morning, but if you start out early, you’ll end up smoking more throughout the day, and your ability to feel the high will reduce.

But, having a fresh stash is hard to turn down, which is why distracting yourself is the best way to avoid heading out to your weed cave first thing in the morning.

I suggest waking up with a plan such as jogging, writing or otherwise being productive. If you can set a goal for yourself to accomplish  — then actually do it — not only will you avoid smoking all of your green before lunch, but you will also set a precedent for your day so that you can accomplish much more and bust that old stereotype that stoners are lazy — which my stoner ass would really appreciate.

Grow your own

It takes time and the right equipment to grow, but if you have space to set up a complete indoor grow room (or if you can grow outdoors during the summer months), you can reap the benefits of your own home-grown stash for months to come. For example, of the four females I had flowering in my garden last summer, my husband and I were able to harvest enough in October to get us through February (and we smoke a lot).

This year, I’ve got a few Super Grow led lights to add to the mix, allowing me to flower a single plant at a time (which isn’t enough by itself, but will hopefully help us stretch our outdoor harvest a few more months). These lights are great for the novice grower because they are cheap (both to purchase and to operate), cool, and compact. If you are interested in starting your own indoor grow room, I strongly suggest giving these little guys a try.

Follow dosing instructions

According to the labels on marijuana purchases in Colorado, the proper dosage is a single hit or two, followed by a 10-minute wait. If, after ten minutes, you still don’t feel sufficiently high, you can go back for another hit or two, but I’m willing to bet that you don’t actually need it. Try it out and let me know how this works for you.

Experiment with  concentrates

DK

Concentrates contain anywhere from 60 to 90 percent of the THC that marijuana flowers have, so if you really want your stash to last, try adding a drop of oil or a small piece of wax onto your bowl. Not only will your green burn slower (and taste better), but you will almost definitely feel it’s effects after ingesting the recommended dosage of a few hits only.

You can also purchase a concentrate vaporizer which will get you high without requiring any flower, and you can us it discretely and quickly — without having to hunt for a lighter, first.

Take a hiatus

The last thing you probably want to hear right now is to quit smoking pot, but if you really want to make it last, then you shouldn’t be smoking it constantly. Taking a break from the herb for a month or so will not only help what you do have last longer, but it will bring your tolerance down enough so that a few tokes really will be all you need to get a good buzz going.

If you do decide to detox, remember that there chances you’ll experience marijuana withdraw if you’ve been a chronic user. Some of these symptoms include irritability, loss of appetite and difficulty sleeping but these symptoms should pass in as little as a few weeks.

Colorado has experienced great liberation after it voted to end marijuana prohibition in 2012. Now anyone over the age of 21 can purchase cannabis with a valid ID and is free to enjoy it in their own home without risk. But with this newly found freedom comes another degree of responsibility: not spending all of our extra cash on weed just because we can.

If you’ve found yourself overindulging in the herb so much that it hurts your wallet — or your ability to get high — then use these five simple tips to make your stash last longer. You’ll be happy you did.
